At Heritage, we have defined what a disciple is through the command given in the “Great Commission” from Mathew 28:19-20. “And Jesus came and said to them, ’All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Summarizing the Great Commission, we like to say, “A disciple has faith in Jesus, is growing in the likeness of Jesus, and is teaching others to follow Jesus.” What does that actually look like though? Is there a way for us to understand where we are at in this maturing process? Is there a way to teach others how to become disciples of Jesus as well?

This teaching series, “Deeper: How Do People Grow?” is aimed at equipping our church to know how to assess our maturity as disciples. In the process, we will also learn what it is that we are teaching others in making disciples of all nations. We pray that this will shape our understanding of how to leverage our areas of maturity and nurture our areas of immaturity. As disciples of Jesus, we are all learning together how to surrender all of life to His lordship and grow in His likeness. In this 8 week study, we will look at the example and teaching of Jesus asking the question, “How can I purpose to grow in the likeness of Christ?”
